Brain in a Jar

How to play

Your brain lives in real time. It eats at meal times, it gets bored, and its fog grows every day. Keep it going as long as you can.

Every day

Your brain wants three meals (one each for breakfast before noon, lunch from noon to 6 pm and dinner after 6 pm), two play sessions and all of its Brain Fog cleared. You can make one attempt per hour.

Rolling

Pick Feed, Play or Clear the fog. You roll 6 dice when Content, 5 when Stable and 4 when Troubled or Awakened. You succeed if four of the dice form two pairs with the same total — 2, 3, 5, 6 works because 2 + 6 = 3 + 5. Failing costs nothing except the hour.

Brain Fog

Each success clears one fog and lets you roll again straight away. Keep going until you fail; then the hour starts. Fog starts at 1 and grows by one every day.

Love

You can’t roll for Love. Complete all three meals, both plays and every fog in one day and Love arrives on its own.

Morning Mood Check

On your first visit each day you roll 2 dice and add yesterday’s care (meals + plays + love), minus any fog left. 9 or more: mood up. 6 to 8: no change. 5 or less: mood down. Double six always goes up two; double one always goes down two.

Awakened

The first time your brain would fall off the bottom, it becomes Awakened instead. It rolls 4 dice, never plays and can’t receive Love. If it falls again, it dies.

Missed days

If you stay away, the jar keeps checking without you. Missed days count as no care and full fog. You roll the most recent check yourself.

Your dice or ours

Let the app roll, or roll real dice and enter the values. Brains raised on real dice get a “hand-rolled” stamp.
